Ottawa outlasts Kanata, 4-2

The Ottawa Senators and the Kanata Lasers were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Ottawa made the most of its opportunities and won, 4-2.

No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Luke McCaw at 4:25 of the second period.

Daniel Sarracco had two goals to lead the Senators to victory. Sarracco found the back of the net on the power play 2:12 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Ottawa and again while on the power play 19:10 into the third to make the score 4-2 Ottawa.

Kanata's power play was ineffective against Ottawa's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

The Senators forced the Lasers goalie Patrick Kealey to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots.

Ottawa also got a goal from Isaac Anderson as well. Other players who recorded assists for Ottawa were Mitchell Gibson and Geoffrey Lawson, who contributed one each and Jody Sullivan and Jim Pearson, who each chipped in two.

Kanata was helped by Tyler Young, who grabbed one goal. Young scored on the power play 14:45 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Ottawa. The Lasers had taken the advantage when Ottawa's Lawson got sent off for tripping. Louis-Charles Croteau assisted on the tally. Joey Laird also scored for Kanata. In addition, Kanata received assists from Michael Locatelli and Will Gauthier, who contributed one each.

The Senators' Marcus Paulino stopped 14 shots out of the 16 that he faced. Ottawa incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Kealey rejected 32 shots on goal for Kanata. The Lasers incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
