Smiths Falls wins tough contest against Cornwall, 4-2

The Smiths Falls Bears gutted out a close 4-2 win against the Cornwall Colts.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Brett Garvey secured the win for Smiths Falls with a goal in the third period.

The Bears were led by Garvey, who finished with one goal. Garvey scored 16:56 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Smiths Falls. Cole Busschaert picked up the assist.

Smiths Falls stifled Cornwall's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Bears forced the Colts goalie Brett Nichol to work between the pipes, taking 42 shots.

Smiths Falls also got points from Busschaert, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Smiths Falls included Josh Leblanc and Michael McKenney, who scored one goal each. In addition, Smiths Falls received assists from Broydon Stufko, Jared Henry, Zach Main, and Anthony DiPlacido, who contributed one each.

Cornwall excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. The Colts kept Smiths Falls' goalie busy throughout the game, and Evan DeBrouwer made 32 saves on 34 shots.

Cornwall was helped by Keegan Mulhearn, who registered one goal. Mulhearn scored 13:28 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Smiths Falls. Sebastian Dirven provided the assist. Cornwall also got a goal from Ross Craig as well. More assists for Cornwall came via Tristan Conrad, Tanner Spink, and Lawson MacDougall, who each chipped in one.

The Bears incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Brett Nichol made 38 saves for the Colts on 41 shots. Cornwall incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
