Nepean uses early goal to top Cumberland, 4-2Nepean Sportsplex Rink 1 Sun, Jan 03, 2016 Story by Narrative Science.
Corey Tam scored the go-ahead goal in the first period, and the Nepean Raiders held off the challenges of the Cumberland Grads in a tough 4-2 win. Nepean took over the lead for good with a goal by Tam at 4:26 in the first period. Raphael Lecours picked up the assist.Mike Finger had two goals to lead the Raiders to victory. Finger scored at 14:34 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Nepean and again while 19:00 into the third to make the score 4-2 Nepean. Cumberland's defense shut down Nepean's forwards for much of the game, and the Raiders got off only 14 shots during the contest. PJ Heger also scored for Nepean. Other players who recorded assists for Nepean were Hunter Garlasco, who had two and Josh Zizek and Geoff Dempster, who each chipped in one. The Grads could not produce up to their normal offensive output. Cumberland averages 4.3 goals per game. The Grads forced Nepean goalie Francis Marotte to work between the pipes, taking 47 shots. Cumberland was helped by Cody Kyle, who tallied one goal. Kyle scored 4:26 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Nepean. Grant Hebert assisted on the tally. Cumberland also got a goal from Zackhary Salloum as well. More assists for Cumberland came via Mathieu Dubois and Joey Sollazzo, who contributed one each. Marotte recorded 45 saves for the Raiders. Nepean incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Ryan Coughlin rejected 10 shots on goal for the Grads. Cumberland incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
