Hawkesbury blows out Cornwall, 5-1

The Cornwall Colts had trouble finding ways to stop the Hawkesbury Hawks, which beat Colts, 5-1.

Chris Smith had one goal and two assists to lead Hawkesbury. Smith scored 14 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Hawkesbury. Joe Smith assisted on the tally.

The Hawks' penalty kill excelled, as Hawkesbury gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays.

The Hawks were often in penalty trouble, totaling 10 minors and one major for 25 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 13.0 minutes per game Hawkesbury had been spending in the box. The Hawks stifled Cornwall's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Hawkesbury additionally got points from Charles Levesque, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Hawkesbury also got a goal from Johnathan Kovacevic as well. In addition, Hawkesbury received assists from Damien Charette, who had two and Adriano Leone and Brett Everson, who each chipped in one.

The Colts forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 10 minors and one major for 25 minutes in penalty time. Cornwall had been averaging 15.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Colts could not produce up to their normal offensive output. Cornwall averages 3.1 goals per game.

Cole Skinner recorded 21 saves for Hawkesbury. The Hawks registered two goals on seven power play opportunities. For Hawkesbury, Kovacevic was ejected from the game. Brett Nichol took the loss and made 10 saves before being replaced by Liam Lascelle who made 11 saves. The Colts ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Eric Verville was ejected from the game.
