Cumberland blows out Gloucester, 8-2

The Cumberland Grads had a four-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to an 8-2 win over the Gloucester Rangers.

Cumberland got the win on the strength of a great game by Branden Makara, who had one goal and two assists. Makara scored 18:39 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Cumberland. Zackhary Salloum picked up the assist.

The Grads forced Gloucester's goalies to work all game long, finishing with 54 shots and forcing 46 saves. Doug Johnston made 36 stops and Cedric Hansen made 10. Cumberland excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. The Grads' goal total was higher than their season average. Cumberland has scored at the pace of 4.4 goals per game during the current campaign.

Cumberland also got points from Marc-Olivier Bouchard, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Shawn Cameron, who also registered two goals and one assist, and DAndre John, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Cumberland also got a goal from Martin Frechette as well. In addition, Cumberland received assists from Michael Larose, who had one, Sam Tremblay, who had two, and Adam Dauda, who had three.

The Rangers struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as they finished the game with 18 penalty minutes for seven opposing power plays.

Gloucester was led by Salim Mahi-Beaudry, who racked up two goals. Mahi-Beaudry scored the first of his two goals at 8:22 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Cumberland. Drew Shields assisted on the tally. Mahi-Beaudry's next tally made the score 6-2 Cumberland with 25 seconds left in the second period. Dan Martin picked up the assist. Other players who recorded assists for Gloucester were Paul Vella and Shane McCrank, who each chipped in one.

Ryan Coughlin rejected 16 shots on goal for the Grads. Cumberland incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
