Nepean beats Carleton Place 4-3 after comeback scare

The Carleton Place Canadians tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Nepean Raiders held on for a 4-3 victory.

Nepean took a 4-2 lead during the third period, only to have Carleton Place storm back on a AJ Klein goal 12:40 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

PJ Heger had two goals to lead the Raiders to victory. Heger scored on the power play at 18:35 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Nepean and again while on the power play 7:05 into the third to make the score 3-2 Nepean.

Nepean stifled the Canadians' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Nepean also had goals scored by William Cullen and Mike Finger, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Nepean were Hunter Garlasco, who had two, Rowan Savidant, who had three, and Corey Tam, Josh Zizek, and Rory Garlasco, who each chipped in one.

Carleton Place's offense rang up 33 shots on the Raiders' net. The defensemen of the Canadians were also effective in Nepean's zone, and came away with two goals. Carleton Place could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 18 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Canadians were helped by Connor Merkley, who finished with one goal. Merkley scored 19:50 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Carleton Place. Vinny Post assisted on the tally. Carleton Place additionally got points from Marcus Joseph, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. More assists for Carleton Place came via Bryce VanHorn, who had one.

Francis Marotte made 30 saves for the Raiders on 33 shots. Nepean incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Carleton Place's James Edwardson stopped 26 shots out of the 30 that he faced. The Canadians registered zero goals on five power play opportunities.
