Smiths Falls vanquishes Hawkesbury in shootout, 2-1 (3-2 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Smiths Falls Bears defeated the Hawkesbury Hawks in a shootout 2-1 (3-2 SO).

The shootout lasted for 12 attempts between the teams. Hawkesbury got shootout goals from Chris Smith and Brett Everson. In addition to the clincher, Smiths Falls got shootout goals from Cole Busschaert and Kevin Groulx.

The Bears' Dyllan Lubbesmeyer was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 38 saves and let only one puck past him. Lubbesmeyer managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.58 prior to the game.

Smiths Falls' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Hawkesbury power plays.

The Bears were led by Michael McKenney, who finished with one goal. McKenney scored 17:53 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Smiths Falls. Nicolas Coates picked up the assist. Other players who recorded assists for Smiths Falls were Groulx, who had one.

The Hawks stifled Smiths Falls' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Hawkesbury was held below its usual level of production. The Hawks put an average of 3.7 pucks into the net per game. The Bears were unable to stop Hawkesbury from sending pucks towards the net, and the Hawks eventually piled up 39 shots on goal.

Hawkesbury was led by Brandon Barillaro, who scored the team's only goal. Barillaro scored 5:02 into the third period to make the score 1-1. Jonathan Cyr provided the assist.

Smiths Falls incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Hawks' Cole Skinner stopped 27 shots out of the 28 that he faced. Hawkesbury incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
