Smiths Falls vanquishes Cornwall in shootout, 6-5 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Smiths Falls Bears defeated the Cornwall Colts in a shootout 6-5 (2-1 SO).

The shootout featured 16 attempts between both teams. Cornwall got a shootout goal from Grant Cooper. Smiths Falls' other shootout goal was scored by Cole Busschaert.

The Bears were led by Zach Main, who had one goal. Main scored 11:40 into the second period to make the score 4-3 Smiths Falls. Sterling Bray assisted on the tally.

In a losing effort, the Colts were sparked by Cooper, who registered two goals. Cooper scored the first of his two goals at 14:25 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Cornwall. Nick Lalonde picked up the assist. Cooper's next tally made the score 5-4 Smiths Falls with 5:21 left in the second period. Cornwall had gained a power play chance when Broydon Stufko was whistled for slashing. Ross Craig provided the assist.

Smiths Falls kept the Colts' goalie busy throughout the game, and Liam Lascelle made 40 saves on 46 shots.

Smiths Falls also got points from Kevin Groulx, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Smiths Falls included Brett Garvey and Corey Caruso, who scored one goal each. More assists for Smiths Falls came via Busschaert, who had two and Caleb Perez, Matthew Kenney, Joey Rutkowski, Nicolas Coates, and Michael McKenney, who contributed one each.

Cornwall put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Bears to score on any of their five power plays. The Colts' offense rang up 37 shots on Smiths Falls' net.

Cornwall additionally got points from Craig, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Cornwall also had goals scored by Tanner Spink and Jeremy McFarlane, who each put in one. In addition, Cornwall received assists from Lawson MacDougall, who had two and Dean Derouchie, Lawson MacDonald, and Brennan Markell, who each chipped in one.

Evan DeBrouwer made 32 saves for the Bears on 37 shots. Smiths Falls incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Cornwall incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
