Pembroke uses shootout to best Hawkesbury, 5-4 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Pembroke Lumber Kings defeated the Hawkesbury Hawks in a shootout 5-4 (2-1 SO).

The two teams needed five turns to complete the shootout. Hawkesbury got a shootout goal from Chris Smith. In addition to the clincher, Pembroke got a shootout goal from Brett Primeau.

The Lumber Kings overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Pembroke trailed 2-0 after a goal by the Hawks' Charles Levesque at 10:51 in the first period. The Lumber Kings tied things up at 4-4 on a goal by Justin Felhaber at 11:43 in the third period.

Pembroke was paced by Felhaber, who tallied one goal.

The Lumber Kings excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Pembroke outdid its season average for goals scored. The Lumber Kings average 2.9 goals per game.

Pembroke also got points from Alex Gilmour, who also registered one goal and one assist. Pembroke also had goals scored by Jesse Blais and Stephen Cooney, who scored one goal each. More assists for Pembroke came via Chris Minns, Patrick Kyte, Ben VanOoteghem, and Brett Horn, who contributed one each.

Pembroke was unable to stop Hawkesbury from sending pucks towards the net, and the Hawks eventually piled up 37 shots on goal.

Hawkesbury was led by Jonathan Cyr, who had two goals. Cyr scored the first of his two goals at 7:25 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Hawkesbury. Brett Everson provided the assist. Cyr's next tally made the score 4-3 Hawkesbury with 13:17 left in the third period. Everson picked up the assist. Hawkesbury also got a goal from Smith as well. Other players who recorded assists for Hawkesbury were Jonathan Tecce, who had two and Brandon Barillaro and Joe Smith, who each chipped in one.

Boyd Diclemente made 33 saves for the Lumber Kings on 37 shots. Pembroke incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Andrew Tucci rejected 25 shots on goal for the Hawks. Hawkesbury incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
