Nepean downs Gloucester in overtime, 4-3 (OT)

The Nepean Raiders' Derek Varrin scored 2:47 into overtime to beat the Gloucester Rangers, 4-3 (OT).

Nepean overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Raiders trailed 3-1 after a goal by Gloucester's Declan Mestel at 7:01 in the second period. Nepean tied things up at 3-3 on a goal by Daniel Porter at 19:18 in the second period.

The Raiders were sparked by Varrin, who finished with one goal.

Nepean managed to stay out of the box better than usual, registering one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Raiders finished below its season average of 16.0 penalty minutes per game.

Nepean also got points from Josh Zizek, who also registered one goal and one assist and Mike Finger, who also racked up one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. In addition, Nepean received assists from Corey Tam, who had one and Justin Hess and Samuel Meisenheimer, who each chipped in two.

Nepean was unable to stop the Rangers from sending pucks towards the net, and Gloucester eventually piled up 39 shots on goal.

Others who scored for Gloucester included Salim Mahi-Beaudry and Paul Vella, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Gloucester were Nicholas Ngwafusi, who had two and Shane McCrank, Vincent Guimond, and Jordan Renaud, who contributed one each.

Francis Marotte recorded 36 saves for the Raiders. Nepean registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. Doug Johnston made 22 saves for the Rangers on 26 shots. Gloucester incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
