Makara's big game bests Nepean in 3-1 Cumberland winNavan Memorial Centre Sun, Nov 29, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
The Cumberland Grads' Branden Makara had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing one assist in his team's 3-1 win over the Nepean Raiders. Makara's tallies came at 7:53 into the second period to make the score 1-1 and 19:08 into the third to make the score 3-1 Cumberland.Nepean was stymied by Cumberland's netminder Thierry Messervier, who stopped 27 shots during the victory. Messervier certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.33 entering the contest. The Raiders were unable to stop the Grads from sending pucks towards the net, and Cumberland eventually piled up 38 shots on goal. Zackhary Salloum also scored for Cumberland. More assists for Cumberland came via Matthieu Franche, Marc-Olivier Bouchard, Adam Dauda, Shawn Cameron, and Michael Larose, who each chipped in one. Nepean's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Cumberland power plays. The Raiders were led by Jody Sullivan, who scored the team's only goal. Sullivan scored on the power play 1:17 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Nepean. Josh Zizek picked up the assist. The Grads incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Francis Marotte recorded 35 saves for Nepean. The Raiders incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
