Smiths Falls holds on for 5-3 win against Kemptville

The Kemptville 73s tried to dig themselves out of a four-goal hole, but the Smiths Falls Bears held on for a 5-3 victory.

Smiths Falls made the score 5-1 on a goal by Kevin Groulx at 16:38 in the second period, and Kemptville got as close as 5-3 when Jason Tackett scored 10:59 into the third period.

The Bears forced 73s' goaltenders to work without much rest, ripping 37 shots and forcing 32 saves. Nicholas Hodgins made 16 stops and Charlie Jensen made 16.

Smiths Falls was helped by Zach Main, who registered one goal and one assist. Main scored 13:50 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Smiths Falls. Josh Leblanc picked up the assist. Smiths Falls also got points from Joey Rutkowski, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Smiths Falls also had goals scored by Sterling Bray and Michael McKenney, who each put in one. In addition, Smiths Falls received assists from Johnny Kyte, Matthew Kenney, and Nicolas Coates, who contributed one each.

The 73s excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Kemptville forced the Bears goalie Evan DeBrouwer to work between the pipes, taking 38 shots.

Kemptville additionally got points from Bobby Dow, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Kemptville also got a goal from Cameron Russell as well. More assists for Kemptville came via Matthew Titus, Brandon Cole, Jake Gaudet, and Tyler Beauparlant, who each chipped in one.

Evan DeBrouwer made 35 saves for Smiths Falls on 38 shots. The Bears incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The 73s incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
