Cornwall wins tough contest against Gloucester, 4-2

The Cornwall Colts and the Gloucester Rangers were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Cornwall made the most of its opportunities and won, 4-2.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Jeremy McFarlane's goal in the second period proved to be the difference maker.

The Colts were paced by McFarlane, who had one goal. McFarlane scored 14:24 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Cornwall. Tanner Spink picked up the assist.

Cornwall forced Gloucester goalie Doug Johnston to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots.

Cornwall additionally got points from Grant Cooper, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Cornwall included Keegan Mulhearn and Nick Lalonde, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Cornwall were Parker Krol, who had two and Sebastian Dirven, Tristan Conrad, and Brennan Markell, who contributed one each.

The Rangers were helped by Vincent Guimond, who registered one goal. Guimond scored on the power play 17:29 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Gloucester earned a power play opportunity when Matthew Morin was put in the box for slashing. Paul Vella provided the assist. Gloucester also got a goal from Salim Mahi-Beaudry as well. In addition, Gloucester received assists from Jahwara Rennalls, Sander Boroczky, and Jordan Renaud, who each chipped in one.

Liam Lascelle recorded 21 saves for the Colts. Cornwall incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Rangers' Johnston stopped 30 shots out of the 34 that he faced. Gloucester totaled nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major and went 1-for-5 on the power play. The Rangers ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Justin Brennan was ejected from the game.
