Cornwall's comeback falls short, Carleton Place wins 5-4

The Carleton Place Canadians came close to giving away a three-goal lead to the Cornwall Colts, but did just enough to escape with a 5-4 victory.

Carleton Place led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Canadians' Andrew Dodson scored at 2:36 in the second period to put Carleton Place up 4-1.

The Canadians could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 20 minutes in penalties during the game.

Carleton Place was helped by Alex Friesen, who registered one goal. Friesen scored 17:35 into the third period to make the score 5-3 Carleton Place. Matt Lombardozzi picked up the assist. Carleton Place additionally got points from Nicolas Carrier, who also had one goal and one assist, Connor Merkley, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Vinny Post, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Dodson, who also finished with one goal and one assist. In addition, Carleton Place received assists from Owen Grant, Lucas Batt, Will LeNeave, and Brett Murray, who contributed one each.

Cornwall kept the Canadians' goalie busy throughout the game, and James Edwardson made 27 saves on 31 shots. The Colts could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 16 minutes in penalties during the game.

Cornwall was led by Grant Cooper, who grabbed one goal and two assists. Cooper scored 19:35 into the third period to make the score 5-4 Carleton Place. Matthew Morin provided the assist. Cornwall also got points from Morin, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Cornwall included Tanner Spink and Brennan Markell, who scored one goal each. More assists for Cornwall came via Ross Craig, who had two and Lawson MacDonald and Nick Lalonde, who each chipped in one.

Carleton Place registered two goals on six power play opportunities. The Colts' Liam Lascelle stopped 18 shots out of the 23 that he faced. Cornwall registered three goals on nine power play opportunities.
