Carleton Place uses shootout to best Smiths Falls, 3-2 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Carleton Place Canadians defeated the Smiths Falls Bears in a shootout 3-2 (1-0 SO).

The shootout lasted for five attempts between the teams.

Carleton Place was helped by Connor Merkley, who tallied one goal. Merkley scored 12:23 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Carleton Place. Nicolas Carrier provided the assist. Lucas Batt also scored for Carleton Place. In addition, Carleton Place received assists from Vinny Post, Andrew Dodson, and Alex Friesen, who each chipped in one.

Smiths Falls excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. The Bears kept the Canadians' goalie busy throughout the game, and Adrian Clark made 34 saves on 36 shots.

Smiths Falls was helped by Kevin Groulx, who racked up one goal. Groulx scored 19:30 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Cole Busschaert assisted on the tally. Smiths Falls also got a goal from Broydon Stufko as well. Other players who recorded assists for Smiths Falls were Chris MacMillan and Brett Garvey, who contributed one each.

Carleton Place incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Evan DeBrouwer rejected 15 shots on goal for the Bears. Smiths Falls incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
