Hawkesbury pulls away in second, rolls over Kanata, 9-3

The Kanata Lasers was within striking distance after one period, but the Hawkesbury Hawks put the pedal down in the second en route to a 9-3 victory.

Chris Smith had a great game for Hawkesbury, netting two goals. Smith's tallies came at 7:52 into the second period to make the score 4-0 Hawkesbury and 19:40 into the third to make the score 9-3 Hawkesbury.

The Hawks forced Kanata's goaltenders to work in net, taking 46 shots and forcing 37 saves. Evan Moyse made 21 stops and Alex Butler made 16. Hawkesbury surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Hawks have scored at the pace of 3.9 goals per game during the current campaign.

Hawkesbury additionally got points from Damien Charette, who also registered one goal and two assists, Brandon Barillaro, who also grabbed two goals and one assist, and Brett Everson, who also finished with one goal and two assists. Others who scored for Hawkesbury included Mike Finger, Vincent Crivello, and Adriano Leone, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Hawkesbury were Charles Levesque, who had two and Liam Manning, Jonathan Cyr, Julien Denicourt, Joe Smith, Ryan Jackson, Bruno Cheff, and Jonathan Tecce, who each chipped in one.

The Lasers did not challenge the opposing netminder, only getting 11 shots on net to force eight saves. Kanata could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 16 minutes in penalties during the game.

Kanata also had goals scored by Stavros Soilis, Dean Hewines, and Taylor Carlson, who scored one goal each. In addition, Kanata received assists from Guisten Annetta, Ty Power, Michael Locatelli, Jacob Balca, and Mike McArthur, who contributed one each.

Cole Skinner made eight saves for Hawkesbury on 11 shots. The Hawks incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Lasers registered one goal on two power play opportunities.
