Messervier stymies Cornwall, Cumberland wins 2-1Ed Lumley Arena Thu, Nov 19, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
The Cumberland Grads relied on the sparkling performance of Thierry Messervier in net to grab a 2-1 win against the Cornwall Colts. Cumberland was sparked by Zackhary Salloum, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Salloum scored 16:54 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Cumberland. Shawn Cameron provided the assist. The Grads put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Cornwall to score on any of its three power plays. Cumberland could not produce up to its normal offensive output. The Grads put an average of 4.3 pucks into the net per game. Cumberland forced the Colts goalie James Edwardson to work between the pipes, taking 35 shots. Tyler Barban also scored for Cumberland. Other players who recorded assists for Cumberland were Simon Besner, who had one. Cornwall excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. The Colts' offense operated below their season average. Cornwall averages 3.2 goals per game. The Colts were led by Lawson MacDonald, who scored the team's only goal. MacDonald scored 8:15 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Nick Lalonde assisted on the tally. Thierry Messervier made 29 saves for the Grads on 30 shots. Cumberland ended with 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major. The Grads ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Alex Cote was ejected from the game. Cornwall's Edwardson stopped 33 shots out of the 35 that he faced. The Colts ended with 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major. For Cornwall, Andrew Ming was ejected from the game.
