DeBrouwer leads Smiths Falls to shutout victory over Hawkesbury

Evan DeBrouwer recorded a shutout against the Hawkesbury Hawks as the Smiths Falls Bears picked up a 6-0 win.

Smiths Falls was paced by Cole Busschaert, who had one goal and one assist. Busschaert scored on the power play 9:20 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Smiths Falls. The Bears had gotten the advantage when Hawkesbury's Jonathan Tecce was sent off for slashing. Kevin Groulx provided the assist.

Smiths Falls featured an improved defense during the game. The Bears allow 2.6 goals per game. Smiths Falls kept the Hawks' goalie busy throughout the game, and Andrew Tucci made 33 saves on 39 shots. The Bears surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Smiths Falls averages 3.9 goals per game.

Smiths Falls additionally got points from Groulx, who also racked up one goal and three assists to lead the team in points, Matthew Kenney, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Nicolas Coates, who also registered one goal and two assists, and Michael McKenney, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Corey Caruso also scored for Smiths Falls. More assists for Smiths Falls came via Broydon Stufko, Jared Henry, Brett Garvey, and Joey Rutkowski, who each chipped in one.

Hawkesbury did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Hawks put an average of 3.7 pucks into the net per game. Hawkesbury struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as it finished the game with 16 penalty minutes for seven opposing power plays.

Evan DeBrouwer made 26 saves for the Bears on 26 shots. Smiths Falls incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. The Hawks registered zero goals on two power play opportunities.
