Ottawa uses big second period to beat Kanata, 5-0

The Ottawa Senators used a three-goal second period to put away the Kanata Lasers, 5-0.

Ian Andriano frustrated Kanata's offense all game, and stopped 26 shots en route to a shutout. Andriano certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.76 entering the contest.

Ottawa was led by Mitchell Gibson, who registered one goal and one assist. Gibson scored 19:31 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Ottawa. Brady Cloutier assisted on the tally.

The Senators put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Lasers to score on any of their four power plays. Ottawa's defensive play was more effective than usual against Kanata. The Senators gives up 2.6 goals on average per game.

Ottawa additionally got points from Marc-Andre Gauvreau, who also racked up two goals and one assist to lead the team in points and Zacharie Car, who also had one goal and one assist. William Cullen also scored for Ottawa. More assists for Ottawa came via Daniel Sarracco, Brett Van Stralen, Samuel Meisenheimer, Kyle Hillick, and Jim Pearson, who contributed one each.

Ottawa incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Evan Moyse rejected 23 shots on goal for the Lasers. Kanata incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
