Nepean holds on for 2-1 win against PembrokeNepean Sportsplex Rink 1 Wed, Oct 21, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
The Pembroke Lumber Kings tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Nepean Raiders held on for a 2-1 victory. Nepean made the score 2-0 on a goal by Derek Varrin at 14:33 in the second period, and Pembroke got as close as 2-1 when Chris Minns scored 13:16 into the third period. The Lumber Kings were stymied by the Raiders' netminder Francis Marotte, who stopped 26 shots during the victory. Marotte certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.91 entering the contest. Nepean stifled Pembroke's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Jody Sullivan also scored for Nepean. In addition, Nepean received assists from Justin Schebel, Rowan Savidant, Corey Tam, and Luke McCaw, who contributed one each. The Lumber Kings put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Raiders to score on any of their six power plays. More assists for Pembroke came via Kris Lalonde and Justin Felhaber, who each chipped in one. Nepean incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Sean Green recorded 20 saves for Pembroke. The Lumber Kings incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
