Marotte stymies Cumberland, Nepean wins 2-1

Francis Marotte had a standout game with 32 saves, and the Nepean Raiders beat the Cumberland Grads 2-1.

Nepean was paced by Corey Tam, who had one goal. Tam scored 40 seconds into the third period to make the score 2-1 Nepean. Hunter Garlasco picked up the assist.

Josh Zizek also scored for Nepean. More assists for Nepean came via Evan Lindquist, Luke McCaw, and Matthew OBrien, who each chipped in one.

Cumberland managed to stay out of the box better than usual, racking up one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Grads wound up below its season average of 17.0 penalty minutes per game. Cumberland did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Grads average 4.1 goals per game. Cumberland forced the Raiders goalie Marotte to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots.

The Grads were led by Branden Makara, who scored the team's only goal. Makara scored on the power play 9:44 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Cumberland. Cumberland earned a power play opportunity when Tam was put in the box for interference. Grant Hebert assisted on the tally.

Nepean incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. The Grads' Thierry Messervier stopped 23 shots out of the 25 that he faced. Cumberland registered one goal on two power play opportunities.
