Kemptville uses shootout to best Hawkesbury, 3-2 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Kemptville 73s defeated the Hawkesbury Hawks in a shootout 3-2 (1-0 SO).

The shootout featured 16 attempts between both teams.

Kemptville overcame a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. The 73s trailed 2-1 after a goal by Hawkesbury's Adriano Leone at 11:22 in the second period. Kemptville tied things up at 2-2 on a power play goal by Victor Tracy at 19:43 in the second period.

The 73s' penalty kill excelled, as Kemptville gave up one goal despite allowing seven power plays.

The Hawks were unable to stop the 73s from sending pucks towards the net, and Kemptville eventually piled up 31 shots on goal.

Jake Gaudet also scored for Kemptville. In addition, Kemptville received assists from Tyson Kirkby, Brandon Cole, Dean Kiriacou, and Matt Tugnutt, who each chipped in one.

Hawkesbury was helped by Brett Everson, who tallied one goal. Everson scored on the power play 36 seconds into the second period to make the score 1-1. Ryan Bunka assisted on the tally. More assists for Hawkesbury came via Mike Finger, Ryan Jackson, and Reid Murphy, who contributed one each.

Nicholas Hodgins recorded 27 saves for the 73s. Kemptville incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The 73s ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Jason Tackett was ejected from the game. Andrew Tucci made 28 saves for the Hawks on 30 shots. Hawkesbury incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
