Smiths Falls wins tough contest against Cornwall, 3-2

The Smiths Falls Bears and the Cornwall Colts were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Smiths Falls made the most of its opportunities and won, 3-2.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Sterling Bray secured the win for the Bears with a goal in the second period.

Cole Busschaert had a great game for Smiths Falls, netting two goals. Busschaert scored at 4:00 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Smiths Falls and again while 8:55 into the second to make the score 2-1 Smiths Falls.

The Bears kept Cornwall's goalie busy throughout the game, and James Edwardson made 31 saves on 34 shots.

Other players who recorded assists for Smiths Falls were Jaylon Gorman, Johnny Curran, Matthew Kenney, and Michael McKenney, who each chipped in one.

The Colts excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances.

Cornwall was helped by Brennan Markell, who registered one goal. Markell scored 9:34 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Dean Derouchie assisted on the tally. Cornwall also got a goal from Tanner Spink as well. In addition, Cornwall received assists from Keegan Mulhearn, Nick Lalonde, and Lawson MacDougall, who contributed one each.

Smiths Falls' Evan DeBrouwer stopped 23 shots out of the 25 that he faced. The Bears incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. The Colts incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
