Carleton Place beats Hawkesbury 5-3 as VanHorn gets hat trick

Bryce VanHorn lifted the Carleton Place Canadians to a 5-3 victory with a hat trick against the Hawkesbury Hawks.

VanHorn's first goal came 13:57 into the second period. He then added goals at 48 seconds into the third and at 7:11 into the third.

Carleton Place did not waste many scoring chances, needing only five shots to achieve its goal tally.

Carleton Place additionally got points from Jordan Larson, who also registered one goal and one assist. Carleton Place also got a goal from Lucas Batt as well. In addition, Carleton Place received assists from Brett Murray, who had three, Will LeNeave and Maxime StPierre, who each chipped in one, and Marcus Joseph and Andrew Dodson, who contributed two each.

Hawkesbury managed to stay out of the box better than usual, finishing with one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Hawks ended up below its season average of 14.0 penalty minutes per game. The Canadians were unable to stop Hawkesbury from sending pucks towards the net, and the Hawks eventually piled up 36 shots on goal.

Hawkesbury was led by Reid Murphy, who tallied two goals and one assist. Murphy scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 6:59 into the second period to make the score 2-2. The Hawks had gotten the advantage when Carleton Place's Colton Point was sent off for throwing the stick. Murphy's next tally on the power play made the score 4-3 Carleton Place with 15:34 left in the third period. Vincent Crivello assisted on the tally. Hawkesbury also got points from Adriano Leone, who also had one goal and one assist. More assists for Hawkesbury came via Mike Finger, who had one.

The Canadians incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Hawkesbury registered one goal on five power play opportunities.
