Cameron's big game bests Ottawa in 6-3 Cumberland win

Shawn Cameron was all over the ice for the Cumberland Grads, as he tallied two goals and one assist in Cumberland's 6-3 win over the Ottawa Senators.

Cameron's tallies came at 4:17 into the second period to make the score 2-2 and on the power play 14:41 into the third to make the score 5-3 Cumberland.

The Grads put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Ottawa to score on any of its four power plays. Cumberland forced the Senators goalie Ian Andriano to work between the pipes, taking 42 shots. The Grads outdid their season average for goals scored. Cumberland averages 3.9 goals per game. The Grads' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Cumberland finished with 16 penalty minutes.

Cumberland also got points from Branden Makara, who also had one goal and one assist, Martin Frechette, who also finished with one goal and two assists, and Benoit Villeneuve, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Cumberland also got a goal from DAndre John as well. More assists for Cumberland came via Michael Larose, who had three and Grant Hebert and Raphael Larose, who contributed one each.

Ottawa racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with six minors and one major for 17 minutes in penalty time. The Senators had been averaging 10.0 minutes in penalties per game.

Ottawa was helped by Kyle Hillick, who grabbed one goal. Hillick scored 14:19 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Ottawa additionally got points from Sean Rappleyea, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Samuel Meisenheimer, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Ottawa were William Cullen and Zachary Cross, who each chipped in one.

Ryan Coughlin rejected 25 shots on goal for the Grads. Cumberland registered one goal on three power play opportunities. Andriano recorded 36 saves for the Senators. Ottawa ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Cross was ejected from the game.
