Pembroke penalty kill dominates in 5-1 defeat of GloucesterRockland CIHA Fri, Sep 25, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
The Pembroke Lumber Kings' penalty kill was superb, as Pembroke survived multiple penalties to beat the Gloucester Rangers, 5-1. The Lumber Kings were sparked by Tyler ONeill, who registered one goal. ONeill scored 4:23 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Pembroke. Brandon Zullo picked up the assist. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 5:08 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. Pembroke's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Gloucester power plays. The Lumber Kings were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 23 penalty minutes. Pembroke also got points from Stephen Cooney, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Ryan Casselman also scored for Pembroke. In addition, Pembroke received assists from Fraser Turner, who had one, Ben VanOoteghem, who had two, and Jesse Blais, who had three. Gloucester was often in penalty trouble, totaling seven minors and one major for 19 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 12.0 minutes per game the Rangers had been spending in the box. Pembroke's Gabe Mollot-Hill stopped 23 shots out of the 24 that he faced. The Lumber Kings registered one goal on four power play opportunities. Pembroke ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Wesley Ashley was ejected from the game. Gloucester's starting goalie, Doug Johnston, made six saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Cedric Hansen, who stopped 14 shots. For the Rangers, Matt Adams was ejected from the game.
