Smiths Falls beats Hawkesbury 4-0 as DeBrouwer gains shutout

Evan DeBrouwer recorded a shutout against the Hawkesbury Hawks as the Smiths Falls Bears picked up a 4-0 win.

Johnny Curran was all over the ice for Smiths Falls, as he tallied two goals in the win. Curran scored at 26 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Smiths Falls and again while 17:39 into the third to make the score 4-0 Smiths Falls.

The Bears forced Hawkesbury's netminders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, getting 37 shots and forcing 33 saves. Jesse Michel made 19 stops and James Hack made 14. Smiths Falls excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. The Bears' defensive play was more effective than usual against the Hawks. Smiths Falls averages 2.4 goals allowed per game.

Smiths Falls also had goals scored by Jaylon Gorman and Broydon Stufko, who each put in one. More assists for Smiths Falls came via Johnny Kyte, Jared Henry, and Tyler Creagh, who contributed one each and Brett Garvey and Matthew Kenney, who each chipped in two.

Hawkesbury could not produce up to its normal offensive output. The Hawks put an average of 4.3 pucks into the net per game. Hawkesbury kept the Bears' goalie busy throughout the game, and DeBrouwer made 34 saves on 34 shots.

Smiths Falls incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Hawks ended with 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major. For Hawkesbury, Jonathan Tecce was ejected from the game.
