Smiths Falls vanquishes Pembroke in shootout, 5-4 (2-1 SO)Pembroke Memorial Center Sun, Sep 20, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Smiths Falls Bears defeated the Pembroke Lumber Kings in a shootout 5-4 (2-1 SO). The shootout lasted for eight attempts between the teams. Pembroke got a shootout goal from Jesse Blais. In addition to the clincher, Smiths Falls got a shootout goal from Sterling Bray.The Bears got the win thanks to a great game by Matthew Kenney, who had two goals and one assist. Kenney scored the first of his two goals at 8:13 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Smiths Falls. Brett Garvey provided the assist. Kenney's next tally made the score 4-4 with 7:26 left in the third period. Bray assisted on the tally. Smiths Falls also got points from Bray, who also had one goal and one assist. Tyler Creagh also scored for Smiths Falls. More assists for Smiths Falls came via Josh Leblanc, who had two and Johnny Curran and Cole Busschaert, who each chipped in one. Smiths Falls was unable to stop the Lumber Kings from sending pucks towards the net, and Pembroke eventually piled up 41 shots on goal. The Lumber Kings were helped by Ben VanOoteghem, who had one goal. VanOoteghem scored 5:23 into the third period to make the score 3-3. Wesley Ashley provided the assist. Pembroke also had goals scored by Cameron Hughes, Blais, and Mitchell Culver, who each put in one. In addition, Pembroke received assists from Colton Keuhl, Tristan Whynot, Ryan Casselman, Nicolas Vlahos, Justin Felhaber, and Gabe Mollot-Hill, who contributed one each. The Bears' Evan DeBrouwer stopped 37 shots out of the 41 that he faced. Smiths Falls incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Sean Green made six saves before being replaced by Mollot-Hill, who took the sol and made 17 saves. Pembroke incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
