Smiths Falls blows out Kanata, 4-0

The Kanata Lasers had trouble finding ways to stop the Smiths Falls Bears, which beat Lasers, 4-0.

Smiths Falls' penalty kill excelled, as the Bears gave up zero goals despite allowing seven power plays.

Smiths Falls was sparked by Matthew Kenney, who racked up one goal. Kenney scored 1:15 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Smiths Falls. Nicolas Coates assisted on the tally.

The Bears stifled Kanata's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Smiths Falls was steadier on the defensive front than it has been for much of this season. The Bears average 2.4 goals allowed per game. Smiths Falls kept the Lasers' goalie busy throughout the game, and Alex Butler made 28 saves on 32 shots. The Bears were hit hard by penalties in the contest, and totaled six minors and one major for 17 minutes in penalty time.

Smiths Falls also got points from Johnny Curran, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Smiths Falls also had goals scored by Brett Garvey and Cole Busschaert, who scored one goal each. More assists for Smiths Falls came via Chris MacMillan, who had two and Darius Gibson and Evan DeBrouwer, who contributed one each.

Kanata stifled Smiths Falls' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Lasers were held below their usual level of production. Kanata averages 2.4 goals per game.

Evan DeBrouwer made 16 saves for the Bears on 16 shots. Smiths Falls registered zero goals on three power play opportunities. For the Bears, Gibson was ejected from the game. The Lasers incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
