Pembroke holds on for 6-4 win against Nepean

The Nepean Raiders tried their best to erase a three-goal deficit, but the Pembroke Lumber Kings would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 6-4.

Pembroke made the score 6-3 on a goal by Jesse Blais at 17:50 in the third period, and Nepean got as close as 6-4 when Kari Belec scored 19:13 into the third period.

The Lumber Kings' offense rang up 39 shots on the Raiders' net. Pembroke's goal total was higher than its season average. The Lumber Kings have scored at the pace of 1.8 goal per game during the current campaign.

Pembroke also got points from Nicolas Vlahos, who also finished with one goal and two assists. Pembroke also had goals scored by Stephen Cooney and Brett Horn, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Pembroke were Tristan Whynot, who had one and Fraser Turner, Ryan Casselman, and Cale List, who contributed two each.

Nepean forced Pembroke goalie Gabe Mollot-Hill to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots.

The Raiders were helped by Rory Garlasco, who grabbed one goal. Garlasco scored on the power play 2:19 into the third period to make the score 5-3 Pembroke. Hunter Garlasco assisted on the tally. Nepean additionally got points from Luke McCaw, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Jody Sullivan also scored for Nepean. In addition, Nepean received assists from Josh Zizek, Matthew OBrien, and Derek Varrin, who each chipped in one.

The Lumber Kings' Mollot-Hill stopped 29 shots out of the 33 that he faced. Pembroke totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 2-for-5 on the power play. The Lumber Kings ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Colton Keuhl was ejected from the game. Francis Marotte recorded 33 saves for Nepean. The Raiders incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
