Ottawa blows out Gloucester, 8-1

The Ottawa Senators had a four-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to an 8-1 win over the Gloucester Rangers.

Ottawa's Marcus Paulino was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 25 saves and let only one puck past him.

The Senators were led by Brett Van Stralen, who had one goal. Van Stralen scored 11:16 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Ottawa. Greg Meireles assisted on the tally.

Ottawa forced Gloucester's netminders to work between the pipes, racking up 37 shots and forcing 29 saves. Doug Johnston made 13 stops and Cedric Hansen made 16. The Senators outdid their season average for goals scored. Ottawa has scored at the pace of 5.3 goals per game during the current campaign.

Ottawa additionally got points from Alexandre Way, who also tallied one goal and two assists, Samuel Meisenheimer, who also registered two goals and one assist, Jim Pearson, who also racked up one goal and one assist, and Zachary Cross, who also had one goal and two assists. Others who scored for Ottawa included Daniel Sarracco and Geoffrey Lawson, who scored one goal each. In addition, Ottawa received assists from Mitchell Gibson, who had two and Marc-Andre Gauvreau, William Cullen, Sean Rappleyea, and Bruno Cheff, who contributed one each.

The Senators incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. The Rangers incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
