Hawkesbury holds on for 4-3 win against Cumberland

The Cumberland Grads tried their best to erase a three-goal deficit, but the Hawkesbury Hawks would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 4-3.

A goal by Brandon Barillaro put Hawkesbury up 4-1 in the second period, but Cumberland pulled to within one on Shawn Cameron's tally 13:21 into the third period.

The Hawks kept the Grads' goalie busy throughout the game, and Ryan Coughlin made 32 saves on 36 shots.

Hawkesbury was helped by Jonathan Tecce, who registered one goal. Tecce scored on the power play 18:03 into the first period to make the score 1-1. The Hawks earned a power play opportunity when Mathieu Dubois was put in the box for boarding. Others who scored for Hawkesbury included Jonathan Cyr and Alex Anderson, who each put in one. More assists for Hawkesbury came via Tom Nicholson, who had one.

Hawkesbury was unable to stop Cumberland from sending pucks towards the net, and the Grads eventually piled up 35 shots on goal.

Cumberland was helped by DAndre John, who tallied one goal. John scored 13:53 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Cumberland. Ted McCabe assisted on the tally. Cody Kyle also scored for Cumberland. In addition, Cumberland received assists from Michael Larose and Martin Frechette, who contributed one each.

The Hawks' Jesse Michel stopped 32 shots out of the 35 that he faced. Hawkesbury incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Grads incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
