Hawkesbury downs Nepean in overtime, 4-3 (OT)Nepean Sportsplex Rink 1 Wed, Sep 09, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
The Hawkesbury Hawks pulled out a 4-3 (OT) overtime victory over the Nepean Raiders on a clutch goal by Ryan Bunka. Although Hawkesbury was up by as many as two goals in the second period, Nepean kept the game interesting by staging a comeback that ultimately fell short. The Raiders pulled to within 3-2 on a goal by Derek Varrin at 16:42 in the third period. The Hawks got the win with help from a great game by Bunka, who had two goals and two assists. Bunka scored the first of his two goals at 3:43 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Hawkesbury. Jonathan Tecce picked up the assist. Bunka's next tally made the score 4-3 Hawkesbury with 19:05 left in overtime. Tecce provided the assist. Hawkesbury stifled Nepean's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Hawks' offense rang up 38 shots on the Raiders' net. Hawkesbury got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed three goals during the game. Hawkesbury also got points from Adriano Leone, who also grabbed one goal and two assists and Tecce, who also finished with one goal and three assists. Nepean additionally got points from Luke McCaw, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Nepean also got a goal from Noah Kalsner-Lowe as well. Other players who recorded assists for Nepean were Evan Lindquist, Corey Tam, Josh Zizek, Justin Hess, and Rory Garlasco, who contributed one each. Jesse Michel recorded 22 saves for the Hawks. Hawkesbury incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Francis Marotte made 34 saves for Nepean on 38 shots. The Raiders incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
