Smiths Falls outlasts Cumberland, 3-2

The game between the Smiths Falls Bears and the Cumberland Grads was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Smiths Falls emerged with a 3-2 win.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and John Curran secured the win for the Bears with a goal in the second period.

Smiths Falls was led by Curran, who registered one goal. Curran scored 18:31 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Smiths Falls. Matthew Kenney picked up the assist.

The Bears' offense rang up 31 shots on Cumberland's net.

Smiths Falls additionally got points from Kenney, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Nicolas Coates also scored for Smiths Falls. Other players who recorded assists for Smiths Falls were Brett Garvey, Kevin Groulx, Sterling Bray, and Cole Busschaert, who contributed one each.

The Grads put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Smiths Falls to score on any of its three power plays.

Cumberland was helped by Cody Kyle, who grabbed one goal. Kyle scored 4:13 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Cumberland. DAndre John assisted on the tally. Cumberland also got a goal from Mathieu Dubois as well. In addition, Cumberland received assists from Grant Hebert and Branden Makara, who each chipped in one.

Evan DeBrouwer recorded 20 saves for the Bears. Smiths Falls incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Ryan Coughlin made 28 saves for the Grads on 31 shots. Cumberland incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
