Cornwall hangs on, beats Pembroke 2-0

The Cornwall Colts beat the Pembroke Lumber Kings, 2-0, in a contest where the winning goal was scored in the first period but the game remained close throughout.

Cornwall took over the lead for good with a goal by Keegan Mulhearn at 13:34 in the first period. The Colts were on a disadvantage when Ross Craig went off the ice for head contact. Tanner Spink provided the assist.

Mulhearn had a great game for Cornwall, netting two goals.

The Colts were boosted by Brett Nichol, who turned in a shutout with 26 saves. Nichol certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 3.35 entering the contest.

Cornwall's offense rang up 38 shots on Pembroke's net.

The Lumber Kings put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Colts to score on any of their four power plays.

Cornwall incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Sean Green recorded 36 saves for Pembroke. The Lumber Kings incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
