Clarington takes care of Georgina early, wins 8-2

The Georgina Ice fell behind early, and the Clarington Eagles kept piling on the points on the way to an 8-2 victory.

Clarington got the win behind a great game by Brent Hambly, who had one goal and two assists. Hambly scored on the power play 4:04 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Clarington. The Eagles earned a power play opportunity when Rory McCarthy was put in the box for tripping. Liam Rowe picked up the assist.

Clarington forced Georgina's netminders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, firing 40 shots and forcing 32 saves. Grant Campbell made 10 stops and Emilio Gallenero made 22. The Eagles managed to stay out of the box better than usual, registering one minor for 12 minutes in penalty time. Clarington finished below its season average of 17.0 penalty minutes per game. The Eagles outdid their season average for goals scored. This season, Clarington averages 5.2 goals per contest.

Clarington additionally got points from Patrick McAuliffe, who also had one goal and two assists to lead the team in points and Collin Weston, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Clarington also got a goal from Cody Kean as well. In addition, Clarington received assists from Austin Collins, Chris Elms, Justin Holiad, Dan Michel, Darby Medd, and Mark Gavrilov, who each chipped in one.

The Ice were led by Matthew McIntyre, who racked up one goal and one assist. McIntyre scored 16:55 into the second period to make the score 5-1 Clarington. Dustin Brillinger provided the assist. Blake Sepkowski APM also scored for Georgina. Other players who recorded assists for Georgina were Dan Foster, who had one.

The Eagles' Mark Robb stopped 22 shots out of the 24 that he faced. Clarington registered two goals on five power play opportunities. Georgina incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
