Long lifts Little Britain over Lakefield, 5-1

Behind a great game by Hayden Long, who had two goals, the Little Britain Merchants defeated the Lakefield Chiefs, 5-1.

Long's tallies came at 11:54 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Little Britain and 9:24 into the second to make the score 3-1 Little Britain.

Little Britain's Garrett Haden was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 25 saves and let only one puck past him. Haden managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.55 prior to the game.

The Merchants' penalty kill excelled, as Little Britain gave up one goal despite allowing seven power plays.

Little Britain also got points from Terry Snoddon, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Little Britain also had goals scored by Blake Abbott and Owen Fawns, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Little Britain were Aidan Renouf, Kenzie Smith, Keegan Cairns, and Michael Cox, who contributed one each.

Lakefield was held below its usual level of production. The Chiefs average 3.9 goals per game.

Lakefield was led by Aaron Vatcher, who scored the team's only goal. Vatcher scored on the power play 16:21 into the first period to make the score 1-1. The Chiefs had gotten the advantage when the Merchants' Mark Harris was sent off for cross checking.

Little Britain incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. Lakefield's Michael Christie stopped 25 shots out of the 30 that he faced. The Chiefs incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
