Little Britain survives Port Perry comeback, wins 5-3

The Port Perry Mojacks tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Little Britain Merchants held on for a 5-3 victory.

Little Britain made the score 5-2 on a goal by Jesse Craig at 4:31 in the third period, and Port Perry got as close as 5-3 when Jeff St. Pierre scored 18:56 into the third period.

Derek Risebrough was all over the ice for the Merchants, as he tallied one goal and two assists in the win. Risebrough scored 3:38 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Little Britain. Michael Cox provided the assist.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 16:58 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with four game misconducts.

Little Britain was often in penalty trouble, totaling 13 minors and one major for 61 minutes in penalty time. The Merchants had been averaging 25.0 minutes in penalties per game. Little Britain forced Mojacks' goaltenders to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots and forcing 28 saves. Blake Shaw made 12 stops and Brett Chandler made 16.

Little Britain also had goals scored by Terry Snoddon, Nathan Watson, and Owen Fawns, who scored one goal each. In addition, Little Britain received assists from Jordan Sharpe, who had two and Mitchell Brown, Kenzie Smith, and Reed Westington, who each chipped in one.

The Mojacks' penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled seven minors and one major for 69 minutes in penalty time. Port Perry surpassed its season average of 21.0 penalty minutes per game. The Merchants were unable to stop the Mojacks from sending pucks towards the net, and Port Perry eventually piled up 53 shots on goal. Team could not crack Little Britain's penalty kill and was held to one power play goal while having 10 opportunities to play with the man advantage.

Port Perry also got a goal from Todd McNair as well. More assists for Port Perry came via Lucas Berkers, Kyle Schweda, Ben Sheremeta, and Konrad Piorkowski, who contributed one each.

The Merchants' Garrett Haden stopped 50 shots out of the 53 that he faced. Little Britain registered one goal on four power play opportunities. For the Merchants, Brant Foster and Smith were ejected from the contest. Team's Mitchell Gustavsen, Ryan Bernardes, and Lucas Clark were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
