Killingbeck's big game bests Little Britain in 5-2 Lakefield win

Behind a great game by Jayd Killingbeck, who had two goals and one assist, the Lakefield Chiefs defeated the Little Britain Merchants, 5-2.

Killingbeck's tallies came at 8:01 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Lakefield and 8:48 into the second to make the score 3-1 Lakefield.

Little Britain's power play was ineffective against Lakefield's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 17:53 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with four game misconducts.

The Chiefs forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up six minors and two majors for 32 minutes in penalty time. Lakefield had been averaging 26.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Chiefs' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Little Britain power plays. The Merchants were unable to stop Lakefield from sending pucks towards the net, and the Chiefs eventually piled up 31 shots on goal.

Lakefield also got points from Eric Oosting, who also registered one goal and two assists to lead the team in points and Nick Hildebrand, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Lakefield also got a goal from Brendan Sampson as well. In addition, Lakefield received assists from Jeff Hawthorne, who had one and Keenan Runnalls, who had two.

Little Britain was helped by Michael Cox, who grabbed one goal. Cox scored 2:03 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Lakefield. Mitchell Brown picked up the assist. Jesse Craig also scored for Little Britain. More assists for Little Britain came via Hayden Long, who had one.

Scott Smith rejected 22 shots on goal for Lakefield. The Chiefs registered one goal on three power play opportunities. For Lakefield, Josh Duggan and Ethan Schott were ejected from the contest. The Merchants' Adam Harris stopped 26 shots out of the 30 that he faced. Little Britain ended with 26 minutes in penalty time with three minors and two majors. Team's Brown and Keegan Cairns were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
