Lakefield rolls over Georgina, 12-1

The Georgina Ice had trouble finding ways to stop the Lakefield Chiefs, which beat Ice, 12-1.

Georgina's power play was ineffective against Lakefield's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

The Chiefs were sparked by Nick Hildebrand, who registered one goal. Hildebrand scored 17:42 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Lakefield. Aaron Vatcher assisted on the tally.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 7:25 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Lakefield was often in penalty trouble, totaling nine minors and two majors for 38 minutes in penalty time. The Chiefs had been averaging 26.0 minutes in penalties per game. Lakefield forced the Ice's goaltenders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, totaling 42 shots and forcing 30 saves. Emilio Gallenero made 15 stops and Brett Chandler made 15. The Chiefs excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in eight chances. Lakefield's goal total was higher than its season average. The Chiefs have scored at the pace of 4.0 goals per game during the current campaign.

Lakefield additionally got points from Jordan MacLean, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Mike Connelly, who also had one goal and one assist, Eric Oosting, who also racked up two goals and two assists, and Jack Vautour, who also registered two goals and one assist. Dalton Hill also scored for Lakefield. Other players who recorded assists for Lakefield were Connor Ellis and William McKinley, who contributed one each and Riley Campbell, Ethan Schott, and Max Maloney APM, who each chipped in two.

Georgina's penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled seven minors and two majors for 34 minutes in penalty time. The Ice surpassed its season average of 24.0 penalty minutes per game.

Georgina was led by Matthew McIntyre, who scored the team's only goal. McIntyre scored 4:34 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Georgina. Bradley Boudreau picked up the assist.

Brad Smith made 23 saves for Lakefield on 24 shots. The Chiefs registered two goals on five power play opportunities. Team's Jackson Bellamy and Hill were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. For the Ice, Jake Martin and Ryan Baggs were ejected from the contest.
