Vautour's big game bests North Kawartha in 6-2 Lakefield win

The Lakefield Chiefs had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 6-2 win over the North Kawartha Knights.

Jack Vautour had two goals and one assist to lead Lakefield. Vautour scored the first of his two goals at 18:29 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Lakefield. Aaron Vatcher assisted on the tally. Vautour's next tally made the score 4-2 Lakefield with 20 seconds left in the second period. Eric Oosting picked up the assist.

The Chiefs excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Lakefield kept North Kawartha's goalie busy throughout the game, and Spencer Green made 27 saves on 33 shots.

Lakefield also got points from Oosting, who also registered one goal and two assists. Others who scored for Lakefield included Riley Campbell, Colton Armstrong, and Nick Hildebrand, who scored one goal each. More assists for Lakefield came via Jordan MacLean, who had two and Devin MacLean and Keenan Runnalls, who contributed one each.

The Knights did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. North Kawartha puts an average of 4.3 pucks into the net per game.

The Knights were helped by Jesse Douglas, who racked up one goal. Douglas scored 3:17 into the first period to make the score 1-0 North Kawartha. Cameron Medland assisted on the tally. North Kawartha additionally got points from Medland, who also registered one goal and one assist. In addition, North Kawartha received assists from Russell Fontyn, who had one.

Brad Smith made 21 saves for the Chiefs on 23 shots. Lakefield incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. North Kawartha incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
