Port Perry wins tough contest against Clarington, 5-3

The Port Perry Mojacks and the Clarington Eagles were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Port Perry made the most of its opportunities and won, 5-3.

No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Konrad Piorkowski at 18:31 of the third period.

Todd McNair was all over the ice for the Mojacks, as he grabbed two goals in the win. McNair's tallies came on the power play at 15:17 into the second period to make the score 2-2 and 14:43 into the third to make the score 3-3.

Port Perry excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Clarington was unable to stop the Mojacks from sending pucks towards the net, and Port Perry eventually piled up 34 shots on goal.

Port Perry additionally got points from Piorkowski, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Port Perry included Kyle Schweda and Jeff St. Pierre, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Port Perry were Dan Harris, Andrew Pickering, Graham Lamers, and Austin Mackie, who contributed one each.

The Eagles' offense rang up 32 shots on the Mojacks' net.

Clarington was helped by Kevin Smith, who registered one goal. Smith scored 14:31 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Jordan Neuman picked up the assist. Clarington also had goals scored by Brent Hambly and Justin Holiad, who scored one goal each. In addition, Clarington received assists from Chris Elms, Ben Pitchforth, and Darby Medd, who each chipped in one.

Blake Shaw recorded 29 saves for Port Perry. The Mojacks incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. For Port Perry, Schweda was ejected from the game. Brett Chandler made 29 saves for the Eagles on 34 shots. Clarington ended with 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major. The Eagles ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Mitchell Marchbank was ejected from the game.
