Trenton wins tough contest against Wellington, 4-2

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Trenton Golden Hawks escaped with a 4-2 victory over the Wellington Dukes.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Hunter Fargey's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

Wellington's power play was ineffective against Trenton's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

The Golden Hawks were led by Fargey, who had one goal. Fargey scored on the power play 6:03 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Trenton. A unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on Tyler Burnie had put Trenton on the power play. Mitch Emerson provided the assist.

The Golden Hawks' penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled seven minors and one major for 19 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 13.0 minutes per game Trenton had been spending in the box. The Golden Hawks forced the Dukes goalie Sam Tanguay to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots.

Trenton additionally got points from Curtis Harvey, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Trenton included Jordan Chard and Quinn Lenihan, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Trenton were Danny Hanlon, who had two and Kevin Lavoie, Blayne Oliver, and Keaton Ratcliffe, who each chipped in one.

Wellington racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with eight minors and one major for 21 minutes in penalty time. The Dukes surpassed its season average of 15.0 penalty minutes per game.

Wellington was led by Ben Sokay, who registered two goals and one assist. Sokay scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 9:02 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Wellington. The Dukes had gotten the advantage when Trenton's Josh Allan was sent off for checking from behind. Dylan Mascarin picked up the assist. Sokay's next tally on the power play made the score 4-3 Trenton with 1:20 left in the third period. Wellington also got a goal from Luc Brown as well. In addition, Wellington received assists from Justin Bean and Jacob Panetta, who contributed one each.

The Golden Hawks' Jackson McIntosh stopped 24 shots out of the 26 that he faced. Trenton registered two goals on seven power play opportunities. For the Golden Hawks, Chays Ruddy and Allan were ejected from the contest. Sam Tanguay made 29 saves for Wellington on 33 shots. The Dukes ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Shaw Boomhower was ejected from the game.
