Gomes leads Burlington over Toronto Patriots, 6-2

The Burlington Cougars' Nathan Gomes had a big offensive game, scoring one goal and contributing two assists in his team's 6-2 win over the Toronto Patriots Patriots.

Gomes scored on the power play 10:59 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Burlington. Burlington earned a power play opportunity when Eric Eremita was put in the box for goalie interference. Nicholas Holt assisted on the tally. Gomes dished an assist on Philip Lagunov's goal that made the score 4-1 Burlington at 12:47 into the second period. He added another helper on Lagunov's goal that made the score 6-2 Burlington at 6:36 into the third period.

Toronto Patriots' power play was ineffective against the Cougars' penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

Burlington forced the Patriots' goalies to work between the pipes, finishing with 33 shots and forcing 27 saves. Jacob Standen made 11 stops and Sean OReilly made 16. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with three goals. The Cougars were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 22 penalty minutes.

Burlington also got points from Holt, who also registered one goal and one assist and Anthony Baxter, who also had one goal and one assist. Burlington also got a goal from Willy Paul as well. More assists for Burlington came via James McLaughlin, who had three and Zac Herrmann, Kevin Dimagno, Ben Morris, Tyler Riter, and Matt Holmes, who contributed one each.

Toronto Patriots could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 22 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Patriots were helped by Jeremy Pullara, who finished with one goal. Pullara scored on the power play 4:51 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Toronto Patriots. Toronto Patriots had gotten the advantage when Burlington's Chris Cobham was sent off for hooking. Louis DiMatteo picked up the assist. Toronto Patriots additionally got points from Jake Harris, who also grabbed one goal and one assist.

Andrew Lee rejected 24 shots on goal for the Cougars. Burlington registered three goals on eight power play opportunities. The Patriots ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Steven Mounouchos was ejected from the game.
