Burlington beats Oakville 5-2 as Lagunov gets hat trick

The Oakville Blades could not stop the Burlington Cougars' Philip Lagunov, who tallied a hat trick in a 5-2 win.

Lagunov notched his first tally 10:37 into the first period. He then added goals at 39 seconds into the second and at 4:48 into the second.

Burlington forced Oakville goalie Michael Botiz to work between the pipes, taking 39 shots.

Burlington also got points from Nathan Gomes, who also racked up one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. David Thomson also scored for Burlington. More assists for Burlington came via Willy Paul, who had two, James McLaughlin, who had three, and Nicholas Holt, Zac Herrmann, and Matt Holmes, who contributed one each.

The Blades could not produce up to their normal offensive output. Oakville puts an average of 4.4 pucks into the net per game.

The Blades were helped by Bryce Misley, who racked up one goal. Misley scored on the power play 1:10 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Burlington. Oakville had gotten the advantage when the Cougars' Lagunov was sent off for interference. Jackson Bales provided the assist. Oakville additionally got points from Patrick Kudla, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, Oakville received assists from Matthew Kellenberger and Eric Holland, who each chipped in one.

Burlington's Andrew Lee stopped 28 shots out of the 30 that he faced. The Cougars incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Botiz rejected 34 shots on goal for the Blades. Oakville incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with two minors.
