Burlington uses big second period to beat Mississauga, 11-2

The Burlington Cougars scored five goals in the second period to pull away from the Mississauga Chargers and clinch an 11-2 win.

Burlington got the win behind a great game by David Thomson, who had two goals and three assists. Thomson scored the first of his two goals at 4:18 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Burlington. Matt Holmes assisted on the tally. Thomson's next tally made the score 9-1 Burlington with 11:29 left in the third period. A tripping penalty on Mike Choma had put the Cougars on the power play. Stefano Alonzi picked up the assist.

Burlington's offense rang up 42 shots on Mississauga's net. The Cougars surpassed their usual scoring output this season. This season, Burlington averages 4.6 goals per contest. The Cougars was effective with a man advantage, and put in three goals while on the power play.

Burlington additionally got points from Zac Herrmann, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Kevin Dimagno, who also tallied one goal and two assists, Alonzi, who also registered one goal and one assist, Philip Lagunov, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Nathan Gomes, who also had one goal and three assists, Chris Cobham, who also finished with one goal and one assist, and Holmes, who also grabbed two goals and one assist. Jordan Peacock also scored for Burlington. Other players who recorded assists for Burlington were David Kiss, who had three, Ben Morris and Dante Felicetti, who each chipped in one, and Willy Paul and Anthony Baxter, who contributed two each.

The Chargers were helped by Kevin Bray, who registered one goal. Bray scored on the power play 8:57 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Burlington. Mississauga had taken the advantage when Burlington's Cobham got sent off for cross checking. Jaimen Allison provided the assist. Mississauga also got a goal from Damien Demarco-Sutton as well. In addition, Mississauga received assists from Scott Docherty, Michael Dischiavi, and Brandon Altman, who each chipped in one.

Andrew Lee made 25 saves for the Cougars on 27 shots. Burlington ended with 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. Team's Mike Faliero and Morris were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Andrew Cipollone rejected 31 shots on goal for the Chargers. Mississauga totaled 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 1-for-5 on the power play. The Chargers ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Mike Tropea was ejected from the game.
