Stouffville rolls over Newmarket, 4-1

The Stouffville Spirit had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 4-1 win over the Newmarket Hurricanes.

Newmarket was stymied by Stouffville's netminder Aaron Taylor, who stopped 35 shots during the victory. Taylor certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 3.18 entering the contest.

The Spirit pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 12 penalty minutes.

Stouffville's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on seven Newmarket power plays. The Spirit's offense rang up 31 shots on the Hurricanes' net.

Stouffville was helped by Ryan DaSilva, who finished with one goal. DaSilva scored on the power play 14:36 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Stouffville. Max Novick assisted on the tally. Stouffville also had goals scored by Jack Varga, Nathan Hudgin, and Stefan Palatsidis, who scored one goal each. More assists for Stouffville came via Sam Hu, who had two and Zachary Roberts, Christopher Brill-Morgan, and Christian Papineau, who each chipped in one.

Newmarket forced the Spirit goalie Taylor to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots.

The Hurricanes were led by Mark Rozanov, who scored the team's only goal. Rozanov scored 6:04 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Newmarket. Alex Ierullo picked up the assist.

Stouffville registered one goal on three power play opportunities. For the Spirit, Cameron Lintner was ejected from the game. Newmarket's Dalton Ewing stopped 27 shots out of the 31 that he faced. The Hurricanes incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
