Aurora falls to Cobourg in overtime, 4-3 (OT)

The Cobourg Cougars pulled out a 4-3 (OT) overtime victory over the Aurora Tigers on a clutch goal by Matt Carroll.

Carroll was all over the ice for Cobourg, as he registered two goals in the win. Carroll scored at 8:07 into the first period to make the score 1-1 and again while on the power play 16 seconds into the fourth to make the score 4-3 Cobourg.

The Cougars managed to stay out of the box better than usual, totaling one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Cobourg ended up below its season average of 15.0 penalty minutes per game. The Cougars' offense rang up 32 shots on Aurora's net. Cobourg capitalized on the Tigers' penalties, netting two goals while skating with a man advantage.

Cobourg also had goals scored by Justin Bennett and Ryan Casselman, who each put in one. More assists for Cobourg came via Ryan OGrady and Russell Nowry, who each chipped in one and Brenden Locke and Brennan Roy, who contributed two each.

Aurora forced the Cougars goalie Stefano Durante to work between the pipes, taking 38 shots.

The Tigers were helped by Liam Neuman, who racked up one goal. Neuman scored 5:36 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Aurora. Drake Board picked up the assist. Others who scored for Aurora included Alex Formenton and Darren Iwai, who scored one goal each. In addition, Aurora received assists from Nolan Dunn, James Thomson, and Austin Gerhart, who each chipped in one.

Durante rejected 35 shots on goal for Cobourg. Joshua Boyko made 28 saves for Aurora on 32 shots. The Tigers incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
