Toronto Patriots holds on for 5-3 win against Oakville

The Oakville Blades tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Toronto Patriots Patriots held on for a 5-3 victory.

Toronto Patriots took a 5-2 lead during the third period, only to have Oakville storm back on a Ryan Foss goal 16:55 into the third period to pull to two goals down.

The Patriots forced the Blades goalie Michael Botiz to work between the pipes, taking 46 shots. Toronto Patriots was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 34 penalty minutes.

The Patriots were led by Jeremy Pullara, who had three goals. Toronto Patriots also had goals scored by Jake Harris and Jason DiPerna, who scored one goal each. More assists for Toronto Patriots came via Mario Ferraro, who had two, Louis DiMatteo, who had four, and Noah Robinson, Colton Kalezic, Jacob Standen, and Jack Lyons, who each chipped in one.

Oakville's offense rang up 51 shots on Toronto Patriots' net. The Blades were held back by their power play unit, which tallied two goals on 10 chances. Oakville's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Blades finished with 28 penalty minutes.

Oakville was helped by Drew Worrad, who racked up one goal. Worrad scored on the power play 9:48 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Toronto Patriots. A hooking penalty on Josh Chiarot had put the Blades on the power play. Ryan Garvey provided the assist. Peyton Reeves also scored for Oakville. In addition, Oakville received assists from Bryce Misley, Brayden Sampson, Josh Kosack, Eric Holland, and Christian Rajic, who contributed one each.

The Patriots' Standen stopped 48 shots out of the 51 that he faced. Toronto Patriots registered three goals on seven power play opportunities. Botiz recorded 41 saves for Oakville. For the Blades, Reeves was ejected from the game.
