Burlington outlasts Mississauga, 3-2

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Burlington Cougars escaped with a 3-2 victory over the Mississauga Chargers.

Burlington gained the winning advantage on a goal by Tyler Riter 9:17 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

The Cougars were led by Riter, who racked up one goal.

Burlington kept Mississauga's goalie busy throughout the game, and Andrew Cipollone made 39 saves on 42 shots. The Cougars struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as they finished the game with 24 penalty minutes for three opposing power plays.

Burlington additionally got points from Nathan Gomes, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Burlington also got a goal from Anthony Baxter as well. In addition, Burlington received assists from Ben Morris, who had two and Mike Faliero, Philip Lagunov, and Matt Holmes, who contributed one each.

The Chargers stifled Burlington's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Mississauga forced the Cougars goalie Austin Washkurak to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots. The Chargers' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Mississauga finished with 24 penalty minutes.

The Chargers were helped by Aidan Parker, who finished with one goal. Parker scored on the power play 6:37 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Mississauga. Mississauga had gained a power play chance when Zack Elson was whistled for holding. Scott Docherty assisted on the tally. Zachery Ribau also scored for Mississauga. Other players who recorded assists for Mississauga were Kyler Matthews, Jake Harrison, and Thomas Lattavo, who each chipped in one.

Austin Washkurak made 34 saves for Burlington on 36 shots. The Cougars registered zero goals on five power play opportunities.
